The World Federation of Trade Unions, honors the 72nd anniversary of the historic attack on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba, an act that marked the beginning of the Cuban Revolution and lit the flame of resistance against imperialism and exploitation.
On this symbolic day, the international class-oriented trade union movement proudly salutes the heroic people of Cuba and their revolutionary legacy. The attack on Moncada on 26 July 1953 was a declaration of struggle against dictatorship, injustice, and imperialist domination. It was a call to the workers and the oppressed to rise up and claim their right to dignity, independence, and sovereignty.
Today, as the world faces intensifying capitalist crises, brutal inequality, imperialist wars, and environmental degradation, the example of revolutionary Cuba remains a guiding light for the workers internationally. Despite the murderous economic blockade imposed by the United States for over six decades, despite sabotage, sanctions, and pressure, the Cuban people continue to defend their right for a socialist society, centered on human needs and not capitalist profits.
The WFTU condemns the ongoing blockade and the continued inclusion of Cuba on the U.S. list of so-called “state sponsors of terrorism.” This designation is not only false, but also a cynical act of political aggression. The real terrorism is the economic suffocation imposed on Cuba, which deprives its people of access to medicines, energy, food, and essential goods.
And yet, Cuba responds not with hatred, but with solidarity. It sends doctors, teachers, and aid to peoples in need. It shows, through practice, that a world based on peace, international cooperation, and mutual respect is possible.
The achievements of the Cuban Revolution, universal healthcare, free education, scientific advancement, popular participation, are the fruits of the people’s struggle and socialist planning. These victories were not given, they were won, and they are defended every day by Cuban workers, farmers, students, and youth.
The WFTU reaffirms its full and unwavering solidarity with Cuba. We support its people, its sovereignty, and its right to chart its own path, free from imperialist blackmail and interference.
On the occasion of the 26th of July, the WFTU calls upon its affiliates and friends, the militant trade unions around the world to amplify the message: Cuba is not alone!
The World Federation of Trade Unions joins its voice with the Cuban workers and the CTC and demand:
Immediate and unconditional end to the murderous U.S. blockade,
Removal of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism,
Return of Guantanamo to the Cuban people,
Respect for the sovereignty of Cuba and its people.
We stand with Cuba, not only in words, but in action, in struggle, and in internationalist solidarity.
Long live the Cuban Revolution! Down with the blockade! Viva Cuba socialista! Viva el 26 de Julio!
