As per the call of CHQ, National Pensioners’ Day has been observed on 17-12-2020 with flag hoistings, meetings etc in almost all circles.

Com.V A N Namboodiri, Patron, NCCPA and Advisor, AIBDPA delivered the keynote address online in the large meeting held by Co-Ordination Committee of Pensioners Organisations, Karnataka.

Com.K G Jayaraj, General Secretary inaugurated the meeting held by Kozhikode District Branch on line. Com. V A N Namboodiri, Advisor also addressed the meeting. The leaders explained the significance of the historic judgment of the constitution Bench of Supre Court delivered on 17-12-1982 in the D S Nakara case, attacks on pension and the duty to stregthen the organisation to fight against the injustice.

Both Com. V A N Namboodiri and Com.K G Jayaraj also participated in the webinar organised by CHQ AIPRPA online and greeted. Com.K Ragavendran, General Secretary, AIPRPA and Com.M Krishnan, Ex.Secretary General, Confederation presented papers.

Dear Comrades,

OBSERVE 17th  DECEMBER AS INDIAN PENSIONERS DAY.

The historic Judgement in D.S. Nakara and others was delivered on 17^th December, 1982.   The judgement coming from the highest court of the land, which considered pension as an inalienable right of the wage earner became a landmark not only in our country but also the world over.  The impact and implication of the judgement was so significant that it rejuvenated the pensioners movement in India and transformed it into fighting organisations.  Pensioners as a community got the self-respect as the society and the Government characterizing pension as a gratis had reduced them to the status of parasites. The very requirement of financial security in the evening of one’s life came to the fore after the spectacular observation of the learned Judges that the pension was indeed a deferred wage.   The struggles that got impetus thereafter brought the parity question to the centre stage of deliberations and the cementing factor for building united movement of pensioners.  The united campaigns, petitions, struggles, agitational programmes, made the successive Pay Commissions to address the parity question with the consideration it deserved.  The victory over that issue, as every success in life, provided the requisite confidence to march ahead.  Observing or commemorating that day Is the most apt and appropriate action, the pensioners organisations must do. NCCPA thus requests all its affiliates, State Committees and the Branch formations to observe the day in a befitting manner that demands the occasion to the best of their ability.

In our very considered opinion, we must also dedicate this day to express our solidarity and support with the fighting farmers of the country.   We salute their determination, courage and unflinching faith in the organisation and organised peaceful resistance against the authoritarian attitude from whichever corner it emanates.  We must also take lesson from the way they have gone about projecting their issues despite all odds and repressive measures and the insurmountable difficulties created by using brutal police power.  Let us remember the sad fact that when the most important service benefit of the civil servants, the statutory pension, was taken away, our resistance did not unfortunately reach the pinnacle and could not compel the rulers to retrace.  One day and it must not be far away, we must emulate the farming community to ensure that every Indian on reaching the age of sixty will become entitled for pension.  This promise will make the observance of 17^th December, 2020 different from the previous occasions and should provide us the impetus to work hard to achieve that objective.  We once again salute the farmer brothers.

The All India Kisan Sangarsh Co-Ordination Committee which is spearheading the great and grand Farmers’ Struggle has given a call to boycott the products of the corporates, particularly that of Reliance.

Modi government is wholly responsible for the sorry state of affairs in the telecom sector for pursing a pro- Reliance Jio policy incurring huge losses to all the telecom companies except Reliance Jio. BSNL is not being allowed to start its 4G services despite declaration of a revival package on 23rd October, 2019. When all the private telecom companies are free to purchase equipments from foriegn companies and started the 4G service well in advance and now Jio has declared about the launching of 5G services in the near future, hurdles are purposely created to stall the 4G service of BSNL.

It is a known fact that BSNL is the only telecom company still capable of competing Reliance Jio, adding new mobile subscribers while all other telecom companies loosing lakhs of subcribers regularly. So the Modi government is bent upon to kill BSNL for the sake of Reliance Jio. AUAB is fighting against this nefarious onslaught which is supported by AIBDPA.

We can do more in resisting the greedy Jio by boycotting their services and swithcing over to BSNL by those availing Jio services for whatever reasons. Also we have to undertake a campaign for boycotting Jio services among the general public in the wake of the call of the farmers.

Amravati District in Maharashtra has held its District Conference befittingly on 10-12-2020. Sufficient Covid-19 protocol was maintained in the physical conference. Coms.R N Patil, Circle Secretary and A S Choudhary, CHQ Organising Secretary addressed and guided the conference. Both leaders congratulated the District Branch for its active functioning and holding the conference. They also explained the issues confronting the pensioners, particularly VRS retirees, and the relentless efforts of CHQ and Circle for settlement.

A joint delegation of AIBDPA and BSNLEU, Punjab joined the struggling farmers at Singhu , New Delhi on 10-12-2020 and assured full support and solidarity to the genuine struggle of the farmers. The deleagation was led by Coms.H S Dhillon, Circle Secretary, BSNLEU and Balvindr Singh, Circle Secretary, AIBDPA.

The farmers who are on struggle for the last two weeks have decided to intensify the struggle due to rejection of their just demands by the Modi government. Kisan Sangarsh Co-Ordination Committee consisting of several farmers’ organisations irrespective of political affiliations have taken a determined stand that nothing short of repeal of three anti-farmer acts will be accepted. They deserve special congratulations for their firm stand and thwarting the nefarious game of Modi government to split them.

CHQ congratulates the noble gesture and camaraderie of our Punjab Comrades and once again affirm that we are with the farmers.

CHQ is saddened to report the unexpected demise of Com. Pradip Saha on 07-12-2020 due to cardiac arrest. Com.Saha was very active in the union activities from the very beginning of his service and held various positions. He retired as JTO officiating in 2016 and joined AIBDPA. He took up the responsibility of District Secretary, Krishnanagar just one year ago. We have lost a sincere comrade.

CHQ pays homage to the departed leader and conveys heartfelt condolences to the family and comrades.
