Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has asked officials to expedite disinvestment process of PSUs to help the govt to achieve the target of Rs.30000Cr in the current fiscal. Raising adequate funds from disinvestment was necessary to keep in check the fiscal deficit.

Maruti Suzuki retrenches 1000 workers, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki has stated that 500 regular and 500 contract wokers are terminated for thier alleged paerticipation in the “violence” in Manesar unit on 18th July in which a manager was killed. 114 workers including 10 office bearers of the union have already been arrested. Kerala state govt employees strike against implementation of Contributory Pension Scheme postponed to 21st August to ensure participation of unions with allegence to ruling combine. Now it will be a complete strike with all unions of gazetted officers and PSUs also joining the strike.
Central govt seeks another extension on 2G auction
Central govt seeks another extension on 2G auction till November 12. Centre has moved the Supreme Court seeking extension for commencing auction to allocate 2G spectrum licences. The supreme court while quashing 122 licences in February gave the govt 4 months time for conducting a fresh auction. On April 20, this time limit was extended to August 31.

Decision of Congress led UDF govt of Kerala to implement Contributary Pension Scheme has prompted wide spread protest. The entire state govt employees will go for one day Strike on 17th August. The LDF govt which was in power during 2006-2011 was completely against CPS. AIBDPA strongly deplores the decision, demands withdrawal of CPS.
