The Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill has been referred to the select committee, as the ruling combine could not muster the necessary numbers in the Rajyasabha, to pass the bill. The left parties and other opposition parties opposed and insisted to refer the bill for the select committee and the government was compelled to accept the suggestion. It is a temporary relief and this period has to be utilized to further strengthen the united movement to fight against this anti-people bill which is intended to weaken and liquidate the public sector insurance companies.
