Nationwide general strike on Feb.28. by Central Trade unions

The central trade unions has decided to go for nationwide general strike on 28th february, 2011 against the wrong policies of the Central Govt.All central trade unions,CITU,AITUC,INTUC,BMS,AICCTU,AIUTUC,UTUC and TUCC will participate in the strike.Labour progessive frort (LPF) trade union of DMK, major ally of UPA will also join the strike.This is the first time after independence that  all trade unions have got together to call such a strike.The unions demanding steps to curb increasing price rise of essential commodities,,to protect employment and to enforce the labour laws strictly.The agitation will also highlight the cause of the unorganised sector and press for the enforcement of Minimum Wages Act,the removal of ceiling on bonus  and assured pension for all class of employees.

Unions up in arms over pension plan in U.K.

Public services across the United Kingdom ground to a halt on wednesday as some two million workers in hospitals,schools, and other Govt.institutions walked out of their jobs in what was described as the biggest public sector strike in a generation.
They were protesting against proposed pension reforms which, they say,mean that they would have to work longer for a smaller pension pot,a claim the government denies.The strike,which disrupted work in hospitals,airports,and led to the closure of thousands of schools,was the largest strike in the history of the country.

The Mammoth Parliament March on 25th November 2011

It was a rare reflection of great unity of
the workers of Central, State governments, public sector, railways, teachers
and pensioners who virtually captured Jantar Mantar area in New Delhi. They
were raising only one demand, “Withdraw the draconian PFRDA Bill”.

AIBDPA has played its humble role by
participating in the Parliament March. About 500 comrades from all circles
rallied under the banner of AIBDPA carrying flags and placards. Participants
included Com. Ananta Kumar Bhattacharjee, President, K.G.Jayaraj, General
Secretary and office bearers as well as most of the circle secretaries.

The Parliament March was blocked with
barricades etc. by the police in the Parliament Street, where the leaders
including Com. V.A.N.Namboodiri and P.Abhimanyu addressed the march.  A delegation of leaders met the Prime
Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and conveyed the strong resentment against the bill
and it was reported that the Prime Minister was speechless on the genuine
argument of the delegation.

Comrade
Basudevacharia  and  Tapan Sen, General Secretary CITU and M.P.
also accompanied the delegation.

Foreign Direct Investment in Pension sector

The union cabinet on 16th Nov.agreed to partially open the gates to foreign direct investment in the pension sector to the extent of 26%,as is now available in the area of insurance ,but decided not to mention any sectoral gap in the proposed legislation.Inits approval to amendments in the PFRDA Bill,2011,the Cabinet,however turned down the Parliamentary Standing Committes suggestion of provoding a guarantee on assured returns on pension fund schemes.
