WFTU’S 70TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS IN NEPAL- A BRIEF REPORT.

On the auspicious occasion of the historical journey of 70 years of WFTU, CONEP organized a two days Trade Union Seminar and Youth Training Program in Kathmandu on December 29-30, 2014. As per the main slogan of the WFTU for 2015, the theme of the seminar was on  ” 70 years of WFTU, 70 years of struggles”.  Inaugurating the opening session, the Chief Guest of the program, Minister of Youth and Sports of Nepal Government Honorable Purushottam Poudel remarked that “the youths are emerging leaders of future movement. The social change cannot be possible unless the youths come forward to take the initiative role and face the challenges of ongoing social movements.” Likewise the special guest from the WFTU, Dy General secretary Comrade H. Mahadevan, addressed the inaugural session. In his inspiring greeting message, he shared the knowledge of the glorious journey of 70 years of WFTU, its continued courses of actions and the role it has been playing for the protection and dignified life of the workers in global context. He expressed anxiety over the measurable life of the migrated youth workers and their compulsion to work in precarious condition. He further pointed out that the LPG is the prescriptions of the WB, IMF and WTO which not only created massive unemployment situation but also widening depth between rich and poor people. As a consequence,   a large number of unemployed and low wage workers are facing very hardship today than ever been before. On the occasion, guests and leaders from friendly trade union organizations of Nepal :  Cde. Bishnu Rimal (Pres. GEFONT/JTUCC),  Cde. Khila Nath Dahal (Pres. NTUC), Cde. Ganga Ram Khadgi( Pres. NTUF), Cde. Tilak Thapa Magar (Pres. FENEPT), Cde. Ganesh Regmi(GenSec. ANTUF), Mr. Narayan Bhattarai (ILO ACTRAV) Cde. Kedar Sanjel (C.Advisor/Member of Parliament), Cde. Prabha Devi Bajracharya (VP/Member of Parliament) were also presence and extended their greeting message and appreciated the program. Almost all speakers emphasized and showed serious concern over the unemployment problems and migration of youths in large scale from the country. Earlier, the 1st VP/WPCM, Cde. Premal Khanal had clarified the objectives of the Seminar and youth training program. In honor of guests, welcome speech was given by the next vice president Cde. Dipak Subedi and a vote of thanks were given by the Dy-General Secretary, Cde. Udaya Sharma. The program was chaired by the President of CONEP, Cde. Biswanath Pyakurel. The program was divided into two parts. After the end of the opening session, the participants were provided trainings on different topics in 2nd part. The subject matters of trainings were;  the Role of Youth in Social change;  Marxism and Dialectical Materialism; 70 years of WFTU and World Trade Union Movement;  CONEP’s Plan, Policy and Ongoing Programs, and Participation of Women Workers in Trade Union Movement, Problems and way out of solutions  in which trainers were  Cde. Yoges Bhattrai (Secretary, CPNUML), Cde. Beduram Bhushal (PBM/ Chief School Dept. CPNUML), Cde. Premal Khanal (1st VP/WPCM),  Cde. Shiva Kumar Adhikari(Gen- Sec/CONEP) and Cde. Sita Ojha (Secretary, Women Dept. CONEP)  respectively. At the end of the two days program, a closing session was also briefly arranged. CONEP President, Cde. Biswanath Pyakurel provided certificates to trainees.  Cde. Pyakurel, wished all youth participants of their growth of leadership development and active participation in future trade union movement. The two days seminar and youth training program grandly concluded. The program was facilitated by Cde. Lalbahadur Pakhrin, the Head of the CONEP International Department.

 

FAMILY GET TOGETHER OF AIBDPA, KOZHIKODE DISTRICT.

A well organized ‘Family Get Together’ was held by Kozhikode district branch at Snehanjali Community Hall , Kozhikode on 03-01-2015. Com. P. P. Krishnan, District Secretary, LIC Employees Union inaugurated the function. Com. K. Prabhakaran, District President presided. Advocate Chembil Vivekanandan delivered the key note address. Coms. M. P. Kunhanandan, CHQ Treasurer, N. Guruprasad, Circle Secretary, M. Vijayakumar, All India Organising Secretary, BSNLEU and V. Bhagyalakshmi, Circle Womens Committee Convenor, BSNLEU spoke on the occasion.

The senior most pensioners, Coms. K. Chandran, K. Krishnan, V. Sulekha, N. Radha, Victoria C Ponnan, and K. Abdulla Koya were honoured with presentation of shawls. Variety  entertainment programs were also presented there after.

MYSURU DISTRICT CONFERENCE HELD ENTHUSIASTICALLY.

The District Conference of Mysuru, Karnataka Circle was held on 11th January, 2015 with massive participation of pensioners. Com. R. G. Bhandari, District President was in chair. Com. V. A. N. Namboodiri, Advisor, AIBDPA inaugurated the conference and briefed about the charter of demands of AIBDPA on which huge Sanchar Bhawan March was conducted, memorandum submitted to the 7th Pay Commission and the initial discussion had with the Pay commission and formation of Trade Union International-Pensioners and Retirees (TUI  P&R). Com. C. K. Gundanna, Circle Secretary, BSNLEU, Com. G. G. Patil, CHQ Organising Secretary, Com. S. A. Bilagi, Circle Secretary and other comrades spoke.

Com. Gopalakrishnan (President) and Com. Basavaraj (District Secretary) are the important functionaries among the office bearers elected unanimously. 

SECUNDRABAD AREA CONFERENCE HELD SUCCESSFULLY.

The Area conference of Secundrabad Division was held on 10th January, 2015 under the presidentship of Com. Umapathi, President. Com. Ramachandradu, Circle Secretary inaugurated the conference with a spirited speech covering the issues of the pensioners and the efforts of AIBDPA to resolve . Com. T. Seshaiah, District Secretary, Hyderabad and Com. B. B. Naidu, District Organising Secretary addressed the conference.

OFFICE BEARERS WITH COM. UMAPATHI (PRESIDENT) AND COM. RAMAKRISHNA (SECRETARY) WERE ELECTED UNANIMOUSLY.

 

KERALA CIRCLE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD.

The Circle Executive Committee Meeting of  Kerala has decided to make the struggles of Forum of BSNL Unions/ Associations ,culminating with the indefinite Strike from 17th March, 2015 for revival of BSNL,  a historic success. The CEC meeting held on 12th January, 2015 at K.G. Bose Bhawan, Ernakulam was inaugurated by Com. K. G. Jayaraj, General Secretary. In his elaborate inaugural address, Com.K. G. Jayaraj exhorted to strengthen the organization at all levels to enable it to conduct stronger agitations for realizing the just demands of the pensioners. Com. R. Aravindakshan Nair, Circle President controlled the proceedings. Com. P. V. Chandrasekharan, All India Patron, Com. MRC and Com. Karayi Sreedharan, both Circle Patrons and Com. M. P. Kunhanandan, CHQ Treasurer addressed. Com. N. Guruprasad, Circle Secretary presented the report for the interim period and accounts position was given by Com. K. J. SanalKumar, Circle Treasurer. All the district Secretaries participated in the discussion and gave valuable suggestions. The meeting came to an end with vote of thanks by Com. L. Krishnakumari, Circle Vice President.

EXTEND SOLIDARITY TO PROTEST DEMONSTRATION OF AIPRPA ON 12-01-2015

All India Postal & RMS pensioners Association, CHQ has issued a call to hold Protest Demonstrations at Circle/Divisional levels against non-payment of enhanced medical allowance @ Rs.500,  orders for which was issued on 19-11-2014,  to those drawing pension through Post offices. All AIBDPA units are requested to extend full solidarity to the protest action of AIPRPA.

MADIKERI DISTRICT BRANCH IN KARNATAKA CIRCLE FORMED.

In a  well attended meeting of the BSNL DOT pensioners at Madikeri on 10th January 2015, District Branch of AIBDPA was formed. Com.A.M.Poojari, Circle President presided over the meeting. Com.Anthony, DS, BSNLEU welcomed all. Com.G.G.Patil, CHQ Org.Secretary, AIBDPA spoke on organisational matters. Com. VAN Namboodiri , Advisor, AIBDPA inaugurated the meeting and spoke in detail about the issue of the Pensioners, including 78.2 per cent pension revision, demands placed before the VII CPC, the attacks on pension world over, fight against PFRDA, Organisation etc. Com.C.K.Gundanna , Circle Secretary, BSNLEU, Com.Belagi, Circle Secretary, AIBDPA and other leaders addressed.

Office bearers were unanimously elected with Com. O.A.Francis as President and Com. S.M.Devraj as District Secretary. Our hearty congratulations to the new office-bearers and also to all the employees and pensioners of Madikeri and nearby places.

MASSIVE PENSIONERS GET TOGETHER AT HYDERABAD.

A massive pensioners convention was held at Aasman Mahal, Hyderabad on 3rd January, 2015. Speaking on the occasion, Com. P. Asoka Babu, CHQ Vice President gave a good account of the issues of the pensioners; 78.2% IDA merger, demands included in the memorandum submitted to the 7th Pay Commission and agitation programs of Forum of BSNL Unions / Associations demanding revival of BSNL. Com. J. Sampath Rao, AGS & Circle secretary, BSNLEU, Com. M. N. Reddy, General Secretary, All Pensioners and Retirees Association, Com. Ramachandradu, Circle Secretary, Com Samyuktha, UTF leader, Shri. P. V. Murlidhar, PGMT, Hyderabad and Com. L. Damodhar Rao, veteran leader also addressed. The massive participation of pensioners, including a good number of lady comrades, made the large Aasman Mahal too short to accommodate.
