78.2% IDA MERGER- MEETING WITH MEMBER(TECHNOLOGY),DOT

Com. V.A.N.Namboodiri, Advisor, AIBDPA today, 20th March 2015, met Shri A.K.Bhargava, Member (Technology) and discussed about the early finanlisation of the Cabinet Note on 78.2% IDA pension fixation for the BSNL Pensioners, who retired before 10-06-2013. While the representatives of the AIBDPA met Shri Rakesh Garg, Secretary, Telecom, last week, he has stated that M(T) has been entrusted with the work.

Com. Namboodiri expressed his serious concern and unhappiness in the extreme delay in preparing the Cabinet Note and stated that already many pensioners have already expired without getting the fixation and more may die, if the issue is delayed further. He also pointed out that while the BSNL pensioners retired after 10-06-2013 had got the fixation, it is denied to all who retired before 10-06-2013, which is a big discrimination. He demanded for early preparation for the Cabinet Note.

Member(T) assured that the matter is being examined and the Cabinet Note will be prepared at the earliest.

STOP SALE OF PSU SHARES.

The government is proposing to sell shares of BHEL, NMDC, NALCO, ONGC, PFC, REC etc. in the financial year 2015-16 to mop up about Rs.41,000 crores. These sales are nothing but handing over of the nation’s assets to the corporate bigwigs for a portion of their real worth. There has been huge corruption in the sale of shares earlier and it will be there in future also. These sales of share are nothing but the steps towards privatisation

Handing over the assets of the nation to the corporate should stop.

SPECTRUM AUCTION- BID REACHES Rs. 1.07 LAKH CRORE.

By 17th March, 2015 the Spectrum bids have reached Rs. 1.07 lakh crore. The government will certainly get a bonanza.

But what about the consumers? It is afraid that the private companies who have taken thousands of crores of rupees from the Banks for bidding will certainly raise the charges. The consumers will be compelled to pay more. Since BSNL and MTNL are in the field, it will not be so much easy for the private companies to increase much. We can watch the developments

BROADBAND- BSNL LOOSES FIRST POSITION.

BSNL was always in the first position in Land lines and Broadband with its valuable cables and OFC. It was thought no body can capture that position. But unfortunately, the latest statistics from TRAI gives another picture. BSNL has been relegated to the second position by Airtel.

The present market share in Broadband is as follows: Airtel 21.48%, BSNL 20.18%, Vodafone 18.91%, Idea 14.94 % and Reliance 14.94%. The balance are with small companies.

Now it is only in landline that BSNL is in No. 1 position. But again, BSNL lost 1.32 lakh connections in January 2015 alone. At present BSNL has got 1.68 crore connections only.

In mobile sector BSNL lost 12.36 lakh connections in January 2015. At present it has got only 8.01 crore mobile connections just more than one third of what Airtel has got, which is 22.0 crore.

SAVE BSNL – SAVE NATION Campaign has to be energitised. The Management and workers have to discuss why the loss is happening and find out remedies to improve our position.

MEETING OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS TRADE UNIONS FROM EUROPE.

Meeting of Telecommunications’ Trade Unions from Europe On Saturday, March 14, took place at the Headquarters of PAME in Athens a meeting of trade union organisations from Telecommunications to discuss the coordination of the workers in the sector against the multinationals.
In the meeting which was hosted by PAME participated the trade union organisations USB from Italy,PEO from Cyprus and CoBas from Spain. The organisations agreed that it is necessary for the fighting trade unions of Europe to coordinate their action in a sector that is dominated by the monopolies, with hundreds of thousands of workers, who are, in majority, working as modern slaves, especially in the huge call centers. At the same time the delegations highlighted issues such as privatizations, the destructive role of the employers’ trade unionism and the persecutions against militant workers.
The organisations agreed in a series of initiatives, with main goal the need to organise a big meeting of the fighting trade unions in telecommunications, IT and call centers, which can be a step for common action. The delegations also talked about the need to open the discussion within the workers and the trade unions for Telecommunications that will not belong to business groups, but they will be property of the people and will guarantee cheap and quality access to the commodity of communication to all people, while at the same time will provide full-time, steady jobs, with full rights to the workers.
